Soccer pitches need upgrades

Our son has played Optimist soccer here in Essex for quite awhile. We have all enjoyed it. My question is this: When will the Optimist organization get some well-deserved “cash” to upgrade our soccer facilities (new washrooms, stands, canteen, etc.)?

Re: Council pay raises

When did you last received a 25 percent or 27 percent increase in your pay? I understand that the budget, unanimously passed by our spendthrift council, provides for double digit percentage increases for each. The councillors may not be able to leave their present employment but they are making certain their income increases!

Don’t you wish you could vote yourself an increase of the same amount? By the way they spend the ratepayers’ money, you would think there is no end to it. A new emblem for the Town along with a large consulting fee? Come on, where is the common sense? If the members of council have any consideration for their ratepayers they would vote all of us a raise by reducing taxes instead of hunting for hair brain projects to spend more!

If the members of council had any consideration for their ratepayers, they would postpone any increases until the next election and then give the electors an opportunity to pass judgment on any increase. Did they not know the remuneration they could expect when they ran for council? I suppose they will increase the chief administrator’s salary since he was so kind as to recommend they increase their own. I certainly hope the electors remember this come the next election.
